Registered Unemployment Drops for 4th Consecutive Week
After rising steadily for a half a year, the number of people registered as unemployed in the nation has now fallen for the fourth week in a row, hitting 49,003 on April 12.
Last week, the ranks of those receiving benefits dropped by 387 following a decline of 473 people the week prior.
The new total of those signed up to receive Unemployment Insurance Fund benefits represents 7.5 percent of the working-age population, rus.err.ee reported.
As usual, the county with the highest portion of its workers registered for unemployment was Ida-Viru at 13.1 percent. The lowest was Tartu County at 5 percent.
Registered unemployment rate differs substantially from the rate published by Statistics Estonia, which conducts surveys among the population and releases the results every quarter. According to the statistics agency, in the fourth quarter of 2011 the unemployment rate was 11.4%.
