Tallinn Commissions Unemployed to Repaint Jungle Gyms
Vice Mayor Deniss Boroditsh said unemployed Tallinners hired under the city government support plan were engaged in renovation of children's recreation areas, helping the city to cut costs significantly.
"We have seen good results arising from cooperation with students' summer work camps, volunteers and also people sentenced to community service," he added.
In 2008, when contractors were hired through a public tender to carry out public recreation area renovations, repainting a playground jungle gym cost 480 euros. This year the city will repaint 47 playground jungle gyms at a cost of 78 euros each.
