Companies Advised to Sign Honest Power Price Agreement in Run-Up to 2013
Another honest pricing pact is in the works, this time related to the opening of the electricity market in 2013.
The Economic Affairs Ministry and the transmission system operator Elering are calling on sellers of electricity to join to ensure that consumers are not in the dark about prices.
The pact will be signed on March 6, remaining open for companies who arrive late. Like a similar pact signed before changeover to the euro, the agreement is voluntary.
"Market participants who sign assume the obligation to distribute multifaceted and fair information to contribute to the smooth opening of the electricity market on January 1, 2013," said Ando Leppiman, head of the ministry's energy department.
Those who join the pact will be able to use an "Open 2013" label and will be included on a website to be constructed this month.
Under the terms of Estonia's accession to the EU, the derogation granted to the country expires in 2013, meaning that all home consumers will be able to choose their power company on the open market from next year.
