Parts: Estonian Air decision in state interest
Former Estonian PM and economy minister Juhan Parts said decisions taken on Estonian Air were in the interests of the state. He is blamed by the opposition forces of driving national carrier Estonian Air into bankruptcy.
He told ETV that decisions taken by him and the Estonian government on Estonian Air, Eesti Energia and other state-owned companies, were taken with Estonia's interests in mind.
Estonian Air recently went in to bankruptcy after state aid to the company was deemed illegal by the European Commission. The company had not earned a profit since 2005 and had since that time embarked on great expansion plans, which failed. Eesti Energia too began expensive projects during Parts's reign as economy minister. Two of those projects, in Utah, US, and in Auvere, Estonia, have cooled.
