Energy briefs: diversify and decline
State-owned energy giant Eesti Energia has signed an agreement with UAB LitGas of Lithuania to buy 5.8 million cubic meters of gas.
The gas will come from the Klaipeda LNG terminal and is an alternative to Russian gas.
“Alternative suppliers are important for guaranteeing delivery for us, for gas sellers and our gas customers, taking into consideration the current regulations and the intense political situation,” Heikko Mäe, head of the company's energy trading department said.

Energy consumption in Estonia increased by 1 percent in 2014, compared to the previous year, but production fell by 6 percent. Still, 10.9 terawatt-hours of electricity was produced, 2.8 Twh more than needed.
The drop in production is due to better energy connections with Scandinavian countries and other Baltic countries, which translated into Estonia providing less of its surplus energy to other nations.
Energy from renewable sources grew by 18 percent to 1.4 Twh.
