The University of Tartu is celebrating European Talent Day today with a reception for students who participated in various international academic competitions in 2011.

“With this [gesture], the university wants to thank and give recognition to students for their commitment, and instructors for their mission-sensitive activities, in support of the development of young talent,” said Viire Sepp, director of the university's Gifted and Talented Development Center.

Last year, Estonia was represented at international competitions by 67 grade school and university students, many of whom took the highest place on the pedestal.

For instance, Eva-Lotta Käsper, a student at the Hugo Treffner Gümnaasiumm in Tartu, won a gold medal at the International Linguistics Olympiad in Pittsburgh.

University of Tartu student Ants Remm finished second among 109 students from 15 countries at the World Physics Olympiad in Indonesia at the end of the year.
