Tartu Uni Among World's Top 1% for Engineering
The University of Tartu made it among the world’s top 1 percent in engineering, freshly published data by the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) reveal.
According to Alar Karis, rector of the university, the school's technical competence has not yet properly been put to use inside Estonia. “This achievement will hopefully send an encouraging message to entrepreneurs, that the university’s research can ensure the faster development of high-tech manufacturing,” said Karis.
The university has put a lot of effort into developing its engineering studies and apparently the work has paid off well, said Peeter Burk, dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology.
"Considering the university’s increasing interest towards the [engineering] field and an effective PhD program, there is reason to believe that the school will continue rising in the field of technology," said Burk.
Tartu has previously been listed in the top 1 percent in the ESI database in chemistry, clinical medicine, animal and plant research, environmental sciences, biology and biochemistry, ecology, social sciences, materials science and geography.
The ESI compilation of science performance statistics and science trends is based on publications in journals and citation counts.
