Estonian High Schools Host Record Number of Exchange Students
This academic year, Estonian high schools are hosting 37 exchange students - a record - from 10 different countries.
"We are becoming an increasingly popular destination," Youth For Understanding (YFU) Inbound Program Coordinator Diina Tuulik told Postimees.
The exchange students are enrolled in local schools and live with a local family for a year. Tuulik said that when asked about what they like about Estonia, most students cite the sauna, kohuke (a local snack consisting of a chocolate glazed cube of sweetened curds), short distances and cheap public transport.
The YFU Estonia branch started in 1992 and has hosted 345 foreign students from around the world. It has also sent more than 1,200 Estonians to high schools in other countries.
