Parliament: Tax amendments to get second reading, Eesmaa and Rõivas elected vice-presidents of the Riigikogu
If the Estonian parliament’s Finance Committee is able to vote on all the new government coalition’s tax amendments on Tuesday and forwards the bill to the Riigikogu, the bill’s second reading will take place on Wednesday despite the Reform Party’s efforts to delay it.
The opposition Reform Party wanted to take the bill’s second reading off the agenda, saying that neither the opposition nor the coalition had had enough time to get acquainted with the bill how it was submitted on Friday.
The Riigikogu did not support the proposal, but instead approved the agenda for the week with 50 votes in favor and 44 against. Two MPs did not vote.
The Finance Committee also discussed the tax amendment package on Monday.
Eesmaa, Rõivas elected vice-presidents of the Riigikogu
Center Party MP Enn Eesmaa and former prime minister Taavi Rõivas (Reform) were elected First and Second Vice-President of the Riigikogu in the parliament’s Monday sitting.
Eesmaa received 50 votes, Rõivas 43. The Social Democrats’ Eiki Nestor will continue to hold the position of President of the Riigikogu.
