Minister Oviir to go abroad at least seven more times this year (2)
Estonian Minister of Entrepreneurship Liisa Oviir, who garnered negative attention for her frequent trips abroad just two months ago, is set to continue traveling abroad after her summer vacation as well — at least seven more times in 2016, according to Estonian daily Õhtuleht.
For example, Oviir is slated to be in Singapore from Sept. 5-9, where she will direct a business delegation's visit, and in two weeks she will spend two days in the Slovak capital of Bratislava, where the EU's trade ministers will hold an informal meeting.
In late September, Oviir will travel to the Finnish town of Tampere to support Estonian businesses taking part in the International Subcontracting Trade Fair Alihankinta, while in October the Estonian minister will make an appearance at the Business and Professional Women's Club European Conference in Zurich.
According to her current travel schedule, Oviir's remaining business trips abroad will cost Estonian taxpayers a total of 7,000 euros, which will be covered from the Ministry of Entrepreneurship's business travel budget.
Õhtuleht noted, however, that Oviir's travel plans for the second half of the year seem notably slimmed down.
In July, Estonian daily Eesti Ekspress wrote about Oviir's expensive trips abroad, whose efficiency was often called into question. For example, one 6,000-euro trip to Kenya involved the minister making a speech less than four minutes in length.
Oviir herself found that all of her international trips save for one have been justified.
