Foreign Minister Jürgen Ligi to visit Latvia and Lithuania
Foreign Minister Jürgen Ligi (Reform) will visit Estonia’s Baltic neighbors on Wednesday and Thursday next week. Ligi will meet with his counterparts as well as the Latvian prime minister and representatives of the Lithuanian parliament.
Ligi will be in Riga on Wednesday, where he will meet with Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs, Prime Minister Māris Kučinskis, and Speaker of the Saeima Ināra Mūrniece, a press release of the Estonian Foreign Ministry stated on Friday.
The meetings will address Estonian-Latvian relations, the future of the European Union, matters related to the EU’s Eastern Partnership, the migration crisis, the Estonian presidency of the EU, and the situation in Ukraine. The foreign ministers will give a joint press conference.
In addition, Ligi will visit NATO’s Strategic Communications center in Riga and meet with its director, Jānis Sārts.
Ligi will then move on to the Lithuanian capital on Thursday. In Vilnius, he will meet Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius and chairman of the foreign affairs committee of the Seimas, Benediktas Juodka.
