Estonian Minister of Defence Hannes Hanso is to meet with his British, US, Canadian and French colleagues to confirm to them that Estonia will continue on the same foreign policy course.

"While as on last night I had a bilateral meeting scheduled with the British Secretary of State for Defence for the second half of the week, this morning my US colleague sent a request for me to meet with the US Deputy Secretary of Defense, in addition to meetings with the Canadian Minister of Defense and the French Minister of Defense," Hanso told BNS late on Wednesday evening.

"The reason is clear — everybody wants to get confirmation that our foreign and security policy will continue on the same course," Hanso, a member of the Social Democratic Party (SDE), said.

The Center Party, SDE and the Pro Patria and Res Publica Union (IRL) launched talks to form a new government coalition after the Riigikogu expressed no confidence in Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas on Wednesday, forcing him to resign.

"Our task at present is to nip groundless tensions and rumors in the bud," explained the Estonian defense minister. "The Republic of Estonia is a NATO partner with all the obligations and rights it entails, and it will remain that way."
