Joe Biden to meet with Baltic heads of state (1)
U.S. Vice President Joe Biden will visit Riga on Aug. 23, where he will meet with presidents Dalia Grybauskaitė of Lithuania, Raimonds Vējonis of Latvia, and Toomas Hendrik Ilves of Estonia.
Biden will also address residents of the Baltic states in a public address, the office of the Latvian president announced.
He also has bilateral meetings scheduled with the Latvian president as well as the country’s prime minister, Māris Kučinskis.
While on his visit to Europe, Biden will also stop over in Turkey and Sweden. The last time Biden visited Latvia was in 2014.
According to U.S. commentators, Biden’s visit takes place in recognition of the continued political support of the U.S. of the Baltic countries, which is especially important after the NATO Warsaw Summit that took place in July.
