Ratas invites British PM Theresa May to Estonia
British Prime Minister Theresa May called Jüri Ratas on Monday to congratulate him on his assumption of the position of Prime Minister of Estonia; Ratas in turn invited May to visit Estonia.
May called Ratas to wish the new Estonian head of government good luck and continued good relations between the UK and Estonia. Ratas in turn thanked the British prime minister for her felicitations and confirmed to her that good relations and cooperation with the UK were very important to Estonia; both countries' respective prime ministers stressed that these would continue following the UK's exit from the EU as well, government spokespeople told ERR.
Ratas likewise confirmed that Estonia would continue with its current foreign and security policy and that dedicating at least two percent of GDP to defense spending would continue to be important to Estonia going forward as well.
"The arrival of the British battalion in Estonia next spring is a very meaningful and important step," said Ratas, who invited May to visit Estonia on the occasion. The British prime minister thanked Ratas for this invitation.
