In a telephone conversation with Jens Stoltenberg, secretary general of NATO, on Tuesday, Prime Minister Jüri Ratas reiterated that cooperation with the alliance was very important for Estonia and its people.

This commitment is signified by Estonia's commitment to maintaining a level of defense expenditures equal to two percent of the GDP, its focus on cyber defense as well as continued contributions to foreign operations, spokespeople for the Estonian government said.

"We do not take NATO security as a given, because our own security is indivisible from the security of our allies," Ratas said. "Estonia will continue the policy of contributing at least two percent of GDP to defense expenditure, supplemented by further investments required for hosting NATO allied units, and we plan to invest even more over the 2018-2019 period."

Having called the Estonian prime minister, Stoltenberg emphasized continuing allied support for Estonia. Conversation topics included cooperation between Estonia and NATO as well as the hosting of allied forces in Estonia.
