Estonians travel to Kazakhstan visa-free starting 2017

Starting Jan. 1 next year, Kazakhstan will allow Estonian nationals to stay in the country for up to 30 days visa-free. Kazakhstan is the country in Central Asia with which Estonia has the most intense business ties, the meeting of an intergovernmental commission in Tallinn earlier this week confirmed.

A meeting of an Estonian-Kazakh intergovernmental commission on economic research and technological cooperation took place in Tallinn on Monday. Relations between the countries, cooperation in the fields of economy, education, transport, and agriculture, the EXPO 2017 to be held in Astana, and possibilities for developing tourism were discussed, spokespeople for the Estonian Foreign Ministry said.

The parties expressed readiness to intensify their cooperation in the area of tourism, a goal supported by the fact that Kazakhstan has decided to offer Estonian citizens visa-free travel for a stay of up to 30 days, starting Jan. 1, 2017.

Reinart said he was pleased that in he field of education and research, cooperation between Estonia and Kazakhstan had intensified as well, and that the intergovernmental commission had contributed a lot to recent developments.

The Kazakh delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Roman Vasilenko.

The aim of the commission, which had last met in Astana in 2013, is to develop cooperation of the two countries in transport, energy, tourism, agriculture, education, research and other fields.
