Estonian court sends two Lithuanian car thieves to prison

On Monday, Tartu County Court sentenced to prison two Lithuanian car thieves belonging to a criminal group involved in stealing cars and selling them in Lithuania.

According to the charges, 26-year old Gražvydas and 17-year-old Salvijus were part of a criminal group that stole cars by breaking into people's homes and stealing car keys as well as using electronic devices to start the cars.

The two defendants' task was to steal cars and thereafter transport them to Lithuania. According to prosecutor Aro Siinmaa, who was in charge of the criminal investigation, the two men were captured on March 4 before stealing any cars.

The court sentenced the two men to prison for three years, two years and six months of which are conditional with three years of probation. In addition, the men will be sent out of Estonia following their release from prison, after which they willl be banned from entry into the country for another three years.

According to Siinmaa, other members of the criminal group remain in custody as their investigation continues.
