ERR chair running for top job at Cultural Endowment
The Chairman of the Board of the Estonian Broadcasting Service (ERR), Margus Allikmaa, has submitted an application to run for the position of manager at the Cultural Endowment of Estonia.
"My term in office at ERR is set to expire next summer; you have to think a few steps ahead in life," Allikmaa told BNS. "It's too early for me to retire yet. I've been interested in the Cultural Endowment of Estonia since it was reestablished and I've been linked to it somewhat earlier too, so this was the reason for me to apply for the job."
Agu Uudelepp, head of the supervisory board at ERR, had previously confirmed to the media that Allikmaa was vying for the position of manager of the Cultural Endowment.
Twenty-four applications were filed by the Aug. 9 deadline in the competition to fill the spot of manager of the Cultural Endowment of Estonia. The endowment's own supervisory board is expected to shortlist up to five candidates for the interview round to be held on Monday, Aug. 22.
The incumbent head of the endowment, Olavi Laido, has stated that he is seeking a second term.
The new manager's four-year term in office is slated to begin on Nov. 1.
The purpose of the Cultural Endowment of Estonia is to support the arts, folk culture, physical fitness and sports as well as the construction and renovation of cultural buildings using proceeds from the alcohol excise duty, gambling tax, property donations and bequests made in favor of the endowment as well as income received from investment of the assets of the endowment.
The endowment's income, expenditures and reserve, are both budgeted to total 27.2 million euros this year.
