Small islands get €640,000 to develop priority services
Starting today, funds can be applied for that will support projects to improve services for the inhabitants of Estonia’s small islands. The program includes 13 islands and total funds amounting to €640,000.
The Small Islands Program’s aim is to help the communities on the country’s small islands to get better access to priority services. It also wants to improve the quality of the services. For the program, services were prioritized.
The most important services include connections between the islands and the mainland, including the connection between the center of an island and its main port. The list continues with healthcare and social services, access to basic and primary education, rescue services, and communications.
It also covers the supply of convenience goods, food, electricity, drinking water, and fuel. Sewage systems as well as garbage disposal are also part of the program.
Included are the islands of Naissaar, Prangli, Aegna, Väike-Pakri, Osmussaar, Vormsi, Kihnu, Manilaid, Kesselaid, Vilsandi, Ruhnu, Abruka, and Piirissaar.
Local governments, non-profit organizations, foundations, state institutions, and private companies all can apply.
