Estonia weighing Finland's invitation to go in on artillery tender
The Estonian Ministry of Defence has confirmed that Estonia is aware of Finland's offer to join their artillery procurement tender, however they have yet to reach a decision regarding whether or not they will choose to cooperate with their northern neighbors on this one.
Ministry of Defence and Estonian Defence Forces specialists are analyzing potential platforms currently on the market based on Estonia's power needs, Ministry of Defence spokesperson Andres Sang told ERR's online news portal.
"According to the defense sector's long-term development plans, the defense forces will be developing its armored maneuver capabilities and the procurement of self-propelled artillery is one element of these plans," Sang noted.
Finnish Minister of Defence Jussi Niinistö has offered for Estonia to join its artillery procurement tender, reported Finnish daily Helsingin Sanomat on Saturday.
It is has been deemed likely that Finland will purchase its weapons from South Korea, whose Samsung Techwin K-9 Thunder howitzers they have recently been testing. The Finnish Army has been on the hunt for a supplier for new artillery since 2015.
