Estonian Olympic medalists', athletes' reception to take place Aug. 23 in Tallinn's Town Hall Square
The Estonian Olympic Committee (EOK) is inviting all sports and Olympic fans to a celebratory reception of the Estonian Olympic delegation returning home from Rio, which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, Aug. 23 beginning at 5:30 p.m. in Tallinn Old Town's Town Hall Square.
Participating in the reception will be the Rio Games' bronze-winning quadruple sculls team, the other members of the 47-athlete Estonian Olympic delegation, delegation trainers as well as support presonnel. The Estonian participants will be thanked for their efforts in Rio and a brief overview will be given of the top moments of the Games of the XXXI Olympiad.
Samba drummers, Liis Lemsalu, dancers from the Tallinn University of Technology (TTÜ) and DJ Critical will help create a more Brazilian atmosphere in the medieval square.
For those who cannot attend in person, the event can be watched live on ETV from 5:40 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
A total of 47 Estonian athletes in 13 events competed in the 2016 Summer Games in Rio, which drew to a close on Sunday night. The Estonian delegation's top achievement remained the quadruple sculls rowing team's bronze medal, earned by Kaspar Taimsoo, Allar Raja, Tõnu Endrekson and Andrei Jämsä.
As the umbrella organization for Estonian sports, the EOK stands for the principles of fair play and Olympic values. The EOK ensures the preparation and participation of top athletes in championships, implements programs targeted at the country's new generation of young athletes as well as increases support for physical activity by means of positive role models.
