Four years after the hospital temporarily took its patient portal offline for maintenance, a period which was expected to last only a few months, East-Tallinn Central Hospital still has not managed to get its online portal back up and running again.

According to Kersti Reinsalu, a member of the board of directors at East-Tallinn Central Hospital, the hospital has been actively working on developing its online patient reception (iPatsient) portal. Estonian daily Postimees reported (link in Estonian) that Reinsalu hoped that the newly updated patient portal would be ready for debut sometime in the near future.

“Our online portal going operational was initially delayed by [the prioritization of] more urgent development needs,” the board member said by way of explanation as to why the updated portal had yet to go online. “Likewise the initial version [of the portal] presented to us by developers did not meet our expectations.”

Nele Nisu, an advisor at the Digital Development Department of the Ministry of Social Affairs, pointed out, however, that there are currently no regulations dictating what, if any, e-services a hospital must provide its patients.
