Estonians in Rio, Day 3: Archer makes Olympic debut, sailors kick off weeklong competitions
Estonian archer Laura Nurmsalu placed 33rd overall after being defeated in her second round, while windsurfer Ingrid Puusta is currently ranked 14th and sailor Karl-Martin Rammo 22nd after their respective first days of competition.
Nurmsalu, who made her Olympic debut in archery at the 2016 Rio Games, placed 33rd overall after losing 66-78 to Ukrainian Veronika Marchenko, who earned 625 and 630 points, respectively, in the preliminaries.
Puusta, who is competing in the RS:X class of windsurfing, is currently ranked 14th after her first day of a competition which will last through Aug. 15.
Rammo, who is sailing in the Laser class, is currently ranked 22nd overall following day one of a competition lasting through Aug. 16.
Five Estonians competing on Tuesday
Fencer Nikolai Novosjolov will be facing South Korean Kyoung-Doo Park in the men's individual épée.
Swimmer Martin Allikvee will make his Olympic debut competing in the 200-meter breaststroke at 7:50 p.m.
The number of Estonian sailors in competition will increase to three on Tuesday as Deniss Karpak competes in the Finn class while Puusta and Rammo's respective competitions continue.
