Anvar Samost named new editor-in-chief of ERR’s online news portal
On June 1, journalist Anvar Samost will take over as Editor-in-Chief of ERR’s online news portal as well as deputy chief of news at the Estonian Broadcasting Service.
Samos has 16 years of previous experience working for news agency Baltic News Service (BNS) as well as Estonian dailies Postimees and Hommikuleht.
From 2006-2011 and from 2015-2016, he was chairman of the board of the BNS Group; he also worked as chairman of the board and editor-in-chief at Postimees from 2011-2013.
From 1995-2014, Samost was a radio presenter for Raadio 2’s broadcast “On the Situation in the State,” initially together with Hannes Rumm, and later with Kalle Muuli.
From February 2014 until March 2015, Samost belonged to the Pro Patria and Res Publica Union (IRL), from which he ran unsuccessfully for both European Parliament in 2014 (earning 3,628 votes) and a seat in the Riigikogu in Ida-Viru County in 2015 (earning 761 votes), after which he stepped out of the party.
ERR’s online news portal’s current Editor-in-Chief Rain Kooli is stepping down from his position voluntarily; he will continue working for ERR as an opinion editor.
