President Kaljulaid meets with prime minister in Kadriorg
President Kersti Kaljulaid invited Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas to Kadriorg on Wednesday evening in order to exchange thoughts on vital national issues. Estonia's new president wants to make such meetings regular.
According to the Office of the President, the head of state wants to start a new tradition in which the president meets with the head of the government on a regular, monthly basis in order to get quick, direct information regarding what is going on in the country.
ETV news broadcast "Aktuaalne kaamera" asked Rõivas prior to the meeting about what topics they would be discussing that night. The Prime Minister responded that they would likely talk about topics of interest to the President of the Republic. "But we will surely also talk aout what is important to the government, whether that is the administrative reform, the renewal of local governments' revenue basis or economic growth," he added.
Rõivas also noted that in a country like Estonia, the prime minister and president must occasionally get together and consult regarding vital nationalissues.
The current Prime Minister of Estonia met with former President Toomas Hendrik Ilves in Kadriorg approximately once every month or two.
