Reinsalu: Move more government jobs to Ida-Viru County
Minister of Justice Urmas Reinsalu (IRL) urged Minister of Regional Affairs Arto Aas (Reform) to give Ida-Viru County special regard in the consideration of the location and creation of jobs, and to relocate 1,000 jobs there from other places of Estonia.
Reinsalu said that the Ministry of Justice had already moved 400 jobs to Ida-Viru County. Recently a decision was made to move the central pharmacy of prisons as well as the Center of Registers and Information Systems’ IT unit to the area.
"I am convinced that activities aimed at integrating Ida-Viru County must be treated not as ordinary regional policy, but first and foremost as an issue of internal security," Reinsalu said. "In dealing with it, the same opinions of experts must be taken into account that we take into account planning comprehensive national defense."
Reinsalu said that the Ministry of Justice was planning new steps to relocate jobs to North-Eastern Estonia, looking into the possibility of setting up a center of excellence for assigning state-provided legal services as well as the centralized administrative service of the courts in Ida-Viru County.
During the past seven years the Ministry of Justice placed approximately 400 jobs of its jurisdiction in Ida-Viru County to increase the presence of government institutions in the region. This includes jobs at Viru prison and the prison service of the Ministry of Justice.
"We are ready to share our know-how in that field also with other institutions of the state," Reinsalu said.
