Hanso meets French defense minister
Defence Minister Hannes Hanso (SDE) met his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian in Paris on Tuesday. Hanso received confirmation that France is planning to contribute to the security of the Baltic Sea area by sending units of its own.
Hanso said that France agreed with the direction of stationing an allied battalion in each of the Baltic States, and that Le Drian expressed France’s willingness to contribute to the security of the area within the same conditions.
The minister said that they now had similar indications from the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France. The Visegrad Group (the Czech Republic, Hungray, Poland, and Slovakia) had indicated the same, Hanso added.
The ministers also signed an agreement to create a framework for cooperation in the field of cyberdefense, ERR’s TV news reported. France had comparable agreements only with the United States and the United Kingdom, Hanso said.
France will also send a specialist to NATO’s cyberdefense center in Tallinn.
