Estonian tennis champion Kontaveit may compete in Rio Olympics
Following the injury of Slovak tennis player Dominika Cibulková, Estonia's top tennis player Anett Kontaveit may now have the opportunity to compete in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
The 27-year-old Cibulková, ranked 11th in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), injured her leg at the Rogers Cup in Montreal last week, news agency AFP reported.
Secretary General of the Estonian Tennis Association Allar Hint told ERR that Kontaveit is the first runner up in the rankings, so she should qualify to compete in the Olympics, however her participation at the Rio Games has yet to be officially confirmed.
If she qualifies, 20-year-old Kontaveit (WTA 94) will be competing in the Olympics for the first time.
