Montenegrin defense minister visits Estonia
Milica Pejanović-Đurišić, minister of defense of soon to be NATO member Montenegro, visited Estonia this week to inform herself about the country’s system of national defense.
Since developing cyber defense is one of the priorities for Montenegro, Pejanović-Đurišić familiarized with the capabilities of Estonia in this field, spokespeople for the Estonian Defence Ministry told BNS. The Montenegrin minister visited NATO’s cyber defense center, the Information System Authority, the cyber defense unit of the Estonian Defence League, and the e-Estonia showroom.
Pejanović-Đurišić also visited the air force base in Ämari, where she was given an overview of the NATO Baltic air policing mission.
On Thursday, Pejanović-Đurišić took part in the opening panel of the ABCD international security conference in Tallinn, along with Estonian Defence Minister Hannes Hanso (SDE) and U.S. ambassador to NATO, Douglas Lute.
Hanso said that it was important for NATO as an organization to keep its door open to new members.
“Estonia has always supported the further enlargement of NATO. The accession of Montenegro to the alliance is an important landmark that we can show as an example to our partners Ukraine and Georgia: the door of NATO is open,” Hanso said.
NATO has sent Montenegro an invitation to join the alliance. When the accession process is completed, Montenegro will be the 29th member of the alliance.
