Toomas Sildam, who previously worked as public relations adviser to President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, has begun advising Estonia’s Social Democratic Party (SDE).

Sildam told ERR on Friday that he was weighing various offers while on vacation following the end of his tenure in Kadriorg when he was contacted by the social democrats, who were seeking an objective, outside eye.

"I agreed and I will be advising them through the end of the month initially," said Sildam, leaving his plans for the future open-ended for the time being.

Sildam, who has an extensive background in journalism, was adviser to President Ilves for the past ten years. He stated that internal policy had been exciting for him and was an interesting field viewed both from the inside and out, which is why he accepted the offer made by the SDE, who is currently involved in coalition talks.

"I believe that Estonia will get a good government," Sildam added.

Sildam was one of eight of Ilves’ advisers whose tenure in Kadrioru came to an end together with the that of the previous president’s second and final term.
