Estonian leaders offer condolences in wake of Munich shooting
President Toomas Hendrik Ilves and Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas took to social media to share condolences after a shooting in a busy Munich shopping district on Friday evening claimed ten lives and injured over a dozen more.
Nine people were killed and at least 16 injured in a shooting rampage in and around Munich's Olympia Shopping Center (OEZ) that began shortly before 6 p.m. local time before the suspected gunman, an 18-year-old dual German-Iranian citizen, was also found dead of a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound, Munich police confirmed at a press conference held early Saturday morning.
Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves, who worked as a journalist for Radio Free Europe in Munich from 1984 to 1993, wrote on social media, "My heart goes out to München, the lovely city where I lived almost a decade and whre my son was born. Terrible."
Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas also posted on social media, writing, "#Munich we stand with Germany. Condolences to all affected."
