According to an Estonian weekly, the Estonian Road Administration will be closing its Jõgeva, Põlva and Valga regional offices on July 1, threatening the employment of nine people and making administrative errands more time-consuming and ultimately more costly for car owners in those regions.

Estonian weekly Maaleht (link in Estonian) reported that the next closest Road Administration office for Jõgeva’s current 8,900 clients was in Tartu, while the next closest office for both Valga’s 6,700 and Põlva’s 9,000 current clients was in Võru.

Thus, in total, the closure of three of its regional offices due to Road Administration cutbacks will affect a total of nearly 25,000 current clients.

While the administration claims that its system of offered e-services should help iron out wrinkles caused by the negative impact on regional access to services caused by the closures, not all Road Administration-related tasks can be completed online — including theory and practical driving tests.
