E-consultation service now also includes specialists
Estonia’s public health insurance system can lead queues, people sometimes have to wait for months to see a specialist. To help solve this problem, e-consultations were introduced, for general practitioners first, and now also for specialists.
Beginning Monday, the East Tallinn Central Hospital (Ida-Tallinna Keskhaigla, ITK) announced that they now also offered e-consultations with endocrinologists, urologists, allergists and immunologists, and ear, nose, and throat (ENT) specialists.
ETV’s news reported that the Health Insurance Fund (Haigekassa) had signed service contracts with several hospitals, which will make it possible for general practitioners to quickly help their patients and send them to specialists faster.
Currently these contracts include the North Estonia Medical Centre (PERH) and the ENT Clinic in Tallinn, Tallinn Children’s Hospital, and the urology department of the Tartu University Clinic.
