SDE: Sven Mikser to become Minister of Foreign Affairs
Each of the three parties in the new coalition will get five ministries. Among the five of the Social Democrats (SDE) is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to be taken over by Sven Mikser.
SDE’s council announced its ministerial candidates on Saturday. Sven Mikser would get the Foreign Ministry, Jevgeni Ossinovski would remain with Health and Labour, Indrek Saar would remain with Culture, Andres Anvelt take over as Minister of the Interior, and Urve Palo as Minister of Entrepreneurship and Economic Development.
Mikser was Estonia’s defense minister from 2002 to 2003 and again from March 2014 to September 2015. He is also the chairman of the Riigikogu’s Foreign Affairs Committee.
“We will enter the coalition with the aim to do great things. It is safe to say that this is the most ambitious coalition agreement of the past ten years,” SDE chairman Jevgeni Ossinovski said on Saturday.
“It is important that we start carrying out our plans with a very experienced team, and all the members of our government delegation have previous ministerial experience,” he added.
