Ambassador: EST-RUS border treaty stuck in Russian Parliament committee
Estonia should wait until the Russian Duma adds the ratification of the Estonian-Russian border treaty to its agenda, Estonian Ambassador to Moscow Arti Hilpus said at a meeting with the Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee.
The border treaty passed its first ratification reading in the Estonian Parliament on November 25 but Russia has not followed the diplomatic practice of parallel handling of bilateral treaties.
According to Hilpus, the treaty is stuck in the Russian Parliament committee that has to approve it before it can be sent to the Parliament, which then usually passes such treaties in one reading.
Hilpus said Estonia need not hurry as the Russian side has not recently mentioned any specific deadlines.
