Estonian Foreign Minister Keit Pentus-Rosimannus affirmed to her Ukrainian counterpart Pavlo Klimkin in a meeting in Brussels that Estonia supports setting up visa-free travel between Ukraine and the European Union.

According to Pentus-Rosimannus, Ukraine must receive a decision in favor of visa freedom as soon as all technical conditions are met. “Introducing visa freedom in the current situation would be an important symbolic confirmation that Ukraine belongs to Europe,” she said. “The closer and easier the communication between people living in the EU and those living in Ukraine is, the more direct contacts there are and the easier and faster Ukraine’s integration with the EU will be,” the foreign minister added.

Pentus-Rosimannus also confirmed Estonia's continued support in assisting Ukraine and reforming the country.

At the meeting of foreign ministers of European Union countries belonging to the Friends of Ukraine group with Klimkin, the latest developments and fragile situation in Ukraine were discussed, as well as expectations for the European Union's Eastern Partnership summit in Riga at the end of this week.

Estonia has always been on a friendly terms with Ukraine, but has become a staunch ally since the Russian aggression in the country started over a year ago.
