Separatists have resources to continue push, says Estonian expert
Separatists fighting the Ukrainian government could have enough manpower and weapons to fill their ambitions, says Mayor Annti Viljaste, a lecturer at the Estonian National Defense College.
Viljaste said the question is how the separatists will use their resources and whether they know how to use it.
“According to estimates from the Ukrainian side, the separatists could have 500 tanks, as well as battle support and ammunition in addition,” he said.
Viljaste said that the manpower on behalf of separatists is also great, with around 9,000 Russian soldiers in addition to the local militia.
From a tactical point of view, Ukrainians must take an aggressive and active defense stand, he said, “To stay passive could lead to a very complicated situation.”
