GALLERY: Estonian Troops Donate Equipment to CAR Police
Estonian troops serving in a peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic have donated equipment to a special police unit in the nation.
Lieutenant Colonel Sten Allik, who heads the Estonian platoon, said the CAR special police unit is one of the better organized in the capital city Bangui, but work conditions and equipment are in bad condition as their grounds were ransacked at the beginning of the year.
Allik said he was impressed by the way the officers continue with their jobs without equipment and not complain, and the locals will soon take over from guaranteeing security.
Police chief captain Bienvenu Zokoue said Estonians are the first foreign troops do come out with such a jest and it was a huge surprise.
The donations included furniture for the offices, other office equipment, tools to fix vehicles, outdoor showers and a washing machine among other things.
The 50 Estonian Defense Forces members serving in Bangui are coming home at the end of this month, with no extensions on what was planned as one four-month stint.
