Ukraine should get EU special representative, MEPs propose
Ten European Parliament members have sent a proposal to EU Foreign Affairs Representative Federica Mogherini to appoint a EU special representative for Ukraine.
Former Estonian foreign minister Urmas Paet, one of the ten, said such a move would be strong political news for Ukraine, and also Russia.
The representative would be in charge of coordinating EU aid to Ukraine, monitoring reforms and helping to find a peaceful solution to the conflict.
Paet said the European Union will continue supporting Ukraine in reforms and in dealing with the consequences of Russian aggression.
Besides Paet, the ten include Kaja Kallas, three Lithuanian MEPs and one European Parliament member from Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech republic, Hungary and Slovakia.
