Ossinovski: State should cover health insurance for pensioners and children
In the opinion of Minister of Health and Labour Jevgeni Ossinovski (SDE), health insurance of pensioners as well as children should be covered with funds allocated from the state budget instead of social tax revenue.
Ossinovski said to daily Postimees that such a step would make up for currently expected shortcomings, but that in the long term another €100m were needed.
The minister pointed out that currently about €130m moved from the budget to the Health Insurance Fund every year, including 1% of social tax revenue as well as €12m for dental insurance, €12m for emergency care, and additional funds for infertility treatment and other procedures.
It would make more sense set up the system in such a way that the working population paid for all of their insurance via social tax, and that the state would step in and take care of everybody who isn’t covered, Ossinovski said. The funding necessary for such a solution would be about €200m, the minister estimates.
