A total of 245 Estonian children will be attending European Schools, where they will be provided with the opportunity for Estonian-language classes, in various EU member states during the newly-begun school year.

During the 2016/2017 school year, 245 Estonian pupils will be attending six different European Schools located in four different countries across the EU: the European School of Brussels II and School of Brussels IV in Belgium, the European School I in Luxembourg, the European School of Alicante in Spain as well as the Munich and Frankfurt European Schools in Germany,

"Estonians are studying in six different European Schools situated in four different countries: at European School Brussels II and European School Brussels IV in Belgium, at European School I in Luxembourg, at European School of Alicante in Spain and at the Munich and Frankfurt European Schools in Germany," Ministry of Education and Research General Education Department advisor Katre Mehine told BNS on Friday.

The greatest share of pupils, 155 in total, will be studying at European School Brussels II, which has been attended by Estonian children for 13 years already. Among the Estonian children attending that school will be 23 in kindergarten, 73 in its primary grades and 59 in its upper secondary grades.

Three of the 11 Estonian language teachers employed across all six schools will likewise teach at the Eurpean School of Brussels II; two of these three were sent to work at the school by the Estonian state while one was hired by the school itself, added Mehine.
