Merle Maigre to continue as security adviser to new president

Former President Toomas Hendrik Ilves' security adviser Merle Maigre confirmed to ERR that she will be continuing as security advisor to the recently sworn-in President Kersti Kaljulaid.

Before becoming security adviser to the president, Maigre had previously worked on secondment from the Estonian Ministry of Defence at the Policy Planning Unit of NATO's Secretary General in Brussels, as a researcher at the International Centre for Defence Studies (ICDS) as well as in Kiev as deputy chief of the NATO mission to Ukraine.

Prior to that, Maigre had also worked for both the Estonian Ministry of Defence and the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Under the new presidency of Kersti Kaljulaid, Tiit Riisalo, a former secretary general of the Pro Patria and Res Publica Union (IRL) was offered the position of director of the Office of the President, Kyllike Sillaste-Elling the position of foreign policy advisor, Heido Vistur the position of economic advisor and Urmo Kübar the position of civil society adviser.
