The Estonian flag was raised and the Estonian delegation officially accepted to the Rio Olympic Village in the Barra da Tijuca neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro during a welcoming ceremony that took place on Monday evening.

Representatives of the Estonian team's athletes, trainers as well as support personnel took part in a traditional welcome ceremony in Rio's Olympic Village on Monday night.

The Estonian delegation was greeted by the mayor of the Olympic Village, basketball champion and two-time Olympic medalist Janeth Arcain. "All those hours spent training have helped you make your dreams come true," said Arcain. "On behalf of Rio, I say from my heart — welcome! We love sports and you have our support."

Arcain gifted the Estonian delegation a symbolic souvenir. Martti Raju, head of the Estonian Olympic delegation, presented the Olympic Village mayor with a bronze Estonian "Kristjan" award identical to those presented to Estonia's athletes of the year.
