Estonian President Toomas Hendrik Ilves was awarded the Lithuanian Diplomacy Star in recognition of his efforts in the field of foreign policy.

According to a press release from the Office of the President of the Republic, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius, who was in town for the 10th Anniversary Lennart Meri Conference, met with Ilves on Friday to confer the award upon the Estonian head of state.

The Lithuanian Diplomacy Star has been issued since 2010 in recognition of the achievements of individuals or organizations in the promotion of international relations.

Previous winners include NATO Deputy Secretary General Alexander Vershbow (2015), author, historian and Yale professor Dr. Timothy Snyder (2014), University of Wisconsin–Madison Professor Emeritus of History Alfred Senn (2012), and Lithuanian poet, prose writer, translator and Yale professor Tomas Venclova (2012).
