President of European Court of Human Rights to visit Estonia
The President of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) Guido Raimondi is scheduled to pay a visit to Estonia in mid-October.
"The president of the ECHR will visit Estonia's top court and meet with Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Priit Pikamäe on Oct. 14," Merje Talvik, the press officer of the Estonian Supreme Court, told BNS on Monday. "In addition, both of them will participate in the panel discussion on the ECHR and Estonian law at the Estonian Jurists' Forum."
Before the panel discussion, Raimondi will give a speech on the legal value of the ECHR's judgments, Talvik added.
Raimondi will be accompanied by Julia Laffranque, an Estonian judge of the ECHR.
This will be the first visit to Estonia by a president of the ECHR.
The visit is taking place in connection with Estonia's current chairmanship of the Council of Europe and the 20th anniversary of the ratification of the European Convention on Human Rights by Estonia.
Estonia acceded to the convention on April 16, 1996.
