The supervisory board of Enterprise Estonia decided at an extraordinary meeting to recall Hanno Tomberg from his position as chairman of the foundation's management board.

Enterprise Estonia supervisory board chairman Erki Mölder said that after thorough consideration, the decision was made on Wednesday to recall the chairman of the management board as of Nov. 26.

"We took the [Minister of Entrepreneurship's] criticism and the situation that had developed into consideration and in the interests of the successful functioning of the organization we decided to terminate the contract with the chairman of the management board," said Mölder.

ETV news broadcast "Aktuaalne kaamera" reporter Liisu Lass reported Mölder as saying that the decision was not a unanimous one, but was rather a predetermined decision handed down by Minister of Entrepreneurship Liisa Oviir.

In Lass' words, Tomberg was shocked by the decision. There was no further information at the time regarding the fates of the remaining members of the management board.

Minister of Entrepreneurship: Enterprise Estonia made the only right decision

"I find the supervisory board's decision to be wise, as in the present state the organization's reputation was at stake and clearly the management board was responsible for this," Oviir told BNS.

In the minister's opinion, the supervisory board's Wednesday decision indicated that they had understood that Enterprise Estonia's management board had not done well enough with their work. "I'm glad that the supervisory board sees the opportunity and the need to improve the quality of Enterprise Estonia's leadership," said Oviir.

Both Mölder and Oviir found in early November already that Enterprise Estonia's current management board accepted its decision regarding the recovery of ten percent of the support paid to OÜ Ermamaa hastily and superficially. The decision signed by the Enterprise Estonia's 2012 management board provided the opportunity for the current board to amend the amount to be recovered, however this was not done and the previous decision was not looked into further.

Oviir, with a background in law, was certain that this clause in the previous decision should have been taken as a basis for the decision made in October of this year in order to correct the error made by the 2012 management board. "I, in any case, am waiting for Enterprise Estonia to very clearly consider, weigh and take responsibility for the situation that has arisen," the minister commented at the beginning of the month.
