President Kersti Kaljulaid met with Polish president Andrzej Duda in Warsaw on Thursday. At the meeting, the presidents discussed their countries’ economic ties, large infrastructure projects in the area, the possible British exit from the European Union, and the union’s future.

President Kaljulaid said at the meeting that though Estonia and Poland’s economic ties were very close, there was room for development. “This is an area I can and want to turn more attention to,” Kaljulaid said. Poland is currently Estonia’s seventh-largest trade partner.

The Polish and Estonian presidents also discussed the region’s energy situation. According to the Estonian Office of the President, the heads of state agree that critical decisions concerning energy policy can’t be delayed, as getting the necessary funding together may take years.

“To Estonia it is extremely important to continue towards bringing the Baltic electricity network to the European frequency,” Kaljulaid stressed.
