Serious fire hazard in Estonian forests
The Rescue Board’s firefighters are busy the third day trying to put out a forest fire close to Kuningaküla in Ida-Viru County. There have been several smaller fires as well, and the danger remains high.
The extent of the fire in Kuningaküla had reached 35 hectares on Monday evening, 14 hectares of which were still burning. There was no danger to houses in the area, the Rescue Board reported.
Ida-Viru County firefighters were busy elsewhere as well, putting out fires in Kahula and Vaivara. The fire in Kahula was under control at around midnight on Monday, in Vaivara the Rescue Board needed to extinguish a two-hectare peat fire close to Kulgu canal.
The Rescue Board stresses that there is currently a very serious fire hazard in the forests of East and South Estonia, and that it’s forbidden to light fires!
