Estonian Minister of Interior Hanno Pevkur paid a visit to the US this week, where he met with Jeh Johnson, Secretary of Homeland Security. Pevkur and Johnson discussed border control cooperation and cyber security.

Estonia is seeking closer cooperation between the two countries in border and cyber security, Pevkur said in a statement.

“Since establishing a specialized border control task force this year, one concrete possibility is bringing the US border guard task force to Estonia to train our new unit,” Pevkur said. “We are also looking forward to welcoming a respective FBI operations unit in Estonia for a pan-European exercise,” he added.

Pevkur also proposed a joint cyber security competence center in Estonia, which upon successful launch could become a regional center of excellence.

Pevkur will also visit the US Air and Marine Operation Center and San Diego border facilities.
