American A-10C Thunderbolt IIs and airmen deployed to Estonia for Saber Strike (24)
Over 100 airmen and eight aircraft from the US Army have been deployed to Estonia to take part in an international military exercise.
The A-10C Thunderbolt IIs, and 111 airmen from the 175th Wing, Maryland Air National Guard are based at Ämari Air Base and will take part in Saber Strike 15, a training exercise.
Taking place annually since 2010, it fosters cooperation between nations and this year Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and the United States are amongst 13 NATO nations taking part.
Chief Master Sgt. Jeffrey Morse, maintenance flight chief assigned to the 175th Maintenance Squadron, said: "This is the first time we have sent eight A-10s to participate in Saber Strike. The teamwork displayed was flawless and everyone came together to get the job done."
Saber Strike, hosted in Lithuania this year, is primarily focused on the security of the Baltic States and trains participants on command and control.
Exercises will consist of field and training exercises conducted in Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, Joint Tactical Air Controller training in Estonia, and a Command Post Exercise conducted in Lithuania.
